Toilet Hire
Some important factors need to be considered when arranging portable toilet hire at an event. The following needs to be determined when considering the minimum provision for sanitary conveniences: the duration of the event, perceived food and fluid consumption of those attending and provision of suitable facilities for children, elderly or disabled people attending who may take longer to use a facility.
A general guideline when considering portable toilet hire is that, for an event lasting for around six hours, an absolute minimum of two lavatories will be required for one hundred people, four lavatories for five hundred people, seven toilets for one thousand people and thirteen for two thousand people. These figures could be lowered slightly for short duration or non peak period events such as country fairs and garden parties, or may need to be increased for events with high levels of fluid consumption or where camping will occur. A maximum acceptable waiting time is a queue of ten people. At events where alcohol is served, it is advisable to increase the number of lavatories by fifteen per cent. One disabled unit for every two hundred people attending an event should be provided. For disabled users, a large restroom is required which can successfully be used by patrons in wheelchairs. The facility should provide near ground level access and incorporate full width handrail assemblies that overlap the corners to add strength and rigidity to the unit.
Portable toilet hire is an ideal solution for construction sites, motorway maintenance, open days and exhibitions, as they can be used where no mains facilities are available. These units do not require drainage or power connections, so are ready for immediate use. The facilities are normally cleaned and re-stocked with consumables on a weekly basis although, for heavy use, more frequent cleansing can be arranged. Where heavy soiling is expected, for example on construction sites, hot water on tap is essential. In fact, by law construction sites in Scotland must now have hot water hand wash facilities with a health and safety compliant basin large enough for users to wash their hands, face and forearms. Electricity for a water heater is required for these facilities, either from a generator (normally supplied by the portable toilet hire company) or mains supplied. As portable toilets have a limited capacity and need emptying, it is recommended that there should be a minimum of one unit per seven persons where only weekly emptying is provided.
